Cisco Packet Tracer Network Diagram

This is a time when ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) as an idea is all the rage. What that essentially means is that all your devices at home will communicate with one another via the internet. Whether it be your Alexa or Google enabled devices, smart lights and electrical appliances, smart TVs delivering a world of streaming content, et al — we are surrounded by it and how!

And this is only the beginning of a fully seamlessly connected future…

Still think you can get away without fully understanding network architecture at its most simple yet all-encompassing level? 🙃

On Day 2 of our DevOps Full-Stack Web Development Programme, we delved deep into how the internet and communication among devices works, by means of exposing our students to real world applications and industry-standard tools.

Main Objectives
1 ) Build a Simple Network in the Logical Topology Workspace
2 ) Configure the Network Devices
3 ) Test connectivity between network devices

What is Packet Tracer ?

There is powerful network simulation tool built by Cisco. Practice building simple and complex networks across a variety of devices and extend beyond routers and switches. Create interconnected solutions for smart cities, homes, and enterprises. Yes It’s Free you can download it via Cisco network Academy.

LAN — Local Area Network

A local area network (LAN) is a collection of devices connected together in one physical location, such as a building, office, or home.

We need to have some basic network devices for accomplish this task. Routers Switches and Server are primary elements in networking.

Usually Straight through cable connects a computer with a Router/ Switch while Serial cable connects Router to Router normally we will discuss more details in our class room sessions.

You need to state up several router interfaces to get this done. Here I’m going to assign IP addresses ( Unique Identities) for each and individual interfaces. Will discuss IP address later in-detail on our second video.

Customer Router Configuration

TCP / IP — What is an IP address?

Your IP address is a unique identifier, kind of like a mailing address, associated with your online activity. Any time that you use the internet (shopping online, sending emails, streaming TV), you’re requesting access to a specific online destination, and in return, information is sent back to you. Classroom Network — 192.168.1.0/24

I’m using following Network configurations for demonstration purpose.

192.168.1.0/24 Local Network

192.168.1.1 — Default Gateway

192.168.1.7 — Local Server 192.168.100.101–104 ( PC’s )

Within TCP/IP network each and every device should have an unique IP address to communicate with other network devices. Here I’m describing how to config DHCP ( Dynamic Host Controlling Protocol ) using our router.

Use below gist to dump the configurations.

Once you done with DHCP you need to configure Customer and ISP routers to work with ip route and NAT. Here I’m demonstrating how to do it.

Hope you Enjoy this article and video 😊 Feel free to share your experience with us.

Stay safe
